AP Research Tutoring
We guide students toward academic excellence, from start to finish.
AP Research is the second year of the AP Capstone program where students conduct an independent, year-long research project on a topic of their choice. Unlike traditional classes, there's no textbook and students must navigate the entire research process from question formation to final presentation.
The Challenge: Students must write a 4,000-5,000 word academic paper, create a presentation, and defend their research all while learning research methodology, primary source selection and evaluation, and college-level academic writing.
The Reality: Many students feel overwhelmed by the open-ended nature of the project. Without proper guidance, students often struggle with everything from choosing a viable research question, to determining their data source(s), to citing sources correctly.
AP Research isn't just another class—it’s a college-level independent research project that challenges even the brightest students. As PhDs with years of experience coaching students through complex research projects and serving as AP Research exam readers (graders), we provide the expert guidance your student needs to excel.

FAQs
-
The earlier, the better. Ideally, students should begin receiving guidance in the late summer/early fall when they're forming their research questions. However, we can help at any stage of the process through the final submission and presentation.
-
Unlike other AP classes that follow a set curriculum, AP Research is entirely student-driven. Students choose their own topic, conduct original research, and must defend their findings which is much like a college thesis.
-
We provide extensive practice sessions, help students anticipate potential questions, and coach them on presentation techniques to ensure they feel confident during their defense.
-
It's never too late to get help. We can assess where they are in the process and create an intensive support plan to get them back on track. We typically begin with a review of the work they have completed to date in order to hit the ground running mid-process.
